The attack happened at a Fairfield County apartment in the 2400 block of Main St. in Bridgeport on Wednesday, Sept. 25, authorities said. Officers were called to the home around 10 a.m. to reports of a vicious assault.
The two children and their 33-year-old mother were critically injured in the beating, police said, but they were later released from the hospital. Bridgeport Police announced on social media that the oldest boy died of his injuries.
Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, is accused of the beating, police said. He is charged with domestic violence, and authorities are expected to indict him on a count of murder with special circumstances, Bridgeport Police said.
Video surveillance from the apartment building showed Sulaiman throwing away a bloody baseball bat, police said. He was arrested shortly after near the apartment with blood on his hands.
He was also accused of assaulting a marshal while in custody, authorities said.
Sulaiman's bond was set at more than $11 million, NBC Connecticut reported.
